Founded in 1905, the Club Campestre de la Ciudad de México is one of the most highly regarded golf clubs in the country. It was established by a group of English-speaking golfers, who found it of great importance as a social club that appealed to many Mexican elites and foreign members. Over the years, the club has navigated the troubled waters of history and, with the Mexican Revolution, became an institution in respect to its sporting values, social commitment, and cultural preservation. It remains a family club, quite attached to its traditions but always open to solidarity actions and education among its community.
The real centrepiece of the club is the painlessly designed golf course, providing a natural and serene atmosphere for golf players. This includes an 18-hole long course and a 9-hole short course lined on both sides with verdant vegetation and a wide variety of trees and plants. The course was first laid out by Willie Smith, a professional golfer, and is famous for its scenic beauties and tricky playing conditions; therefore, it particularly attracts golf players.
The Clubhouse, which is an iconic structure within the Club, has played host to the rich tapestry of Mexico's social, political, and cultural history. The place has been in operation since 1932, has had the distinction of playing host to many distinguished guests, and has been a mute witness to many other important events over the ages. The legacy remains alive at Club Campestre de la Ciudad de México, so tradition is finely mixed with modernity, and members can enjoy a unique space in which to combine their passion for the game of golf with the richness of Mexico's history.
