The Marrakech Cooking School offers an immersive cooking experience for its guests to learn about the colorful and flavorful secrets of Moroccan cuisine. Cooking classes take place against the backdrop of Marrakech's captivating surroundings, with great sights and intimate glimpses into the rich gastronomic traditions shaped by Arab, Berber, Jewish, African, and French influences. Assisted by an abundance of fresh, locally grown ingredients at their disposal, students learn the techniques in traditional Moroccan cuisine, prepared with a diversity of spices, herbs, and oils-tajines, couscous, and Berber flatbread dishes.
Led by the master chef, Fatim-Zahra, the cooking courses begin with a walk through the Mellah marketplace, where participants will pick out fresh vegetables and fruits, spices, and other ingredients that are to be used in the day's dishes. Classes take place at various picture-postcard settings - the roof terrace of Riad Africa or the poolside terrace of Kasbah Africa - both with stunning views either of Marrakech or of the Atlas Mountains. Guests are welcomed with traditional mint tea before being taken through the preparation of dishes such as briouat, pastilla, and the school's signature Fez chicken tagine using the clay tagine cooking method.
Marrakech Cooking School places great emphasis on relaxed, personal service; classes are interactive and fun. Whether you are in a small daily workshop or a private group designed around your needs and desires, you not only learn to prepare an authentic Moroccan meal, but also enjoy a three-course lunch complete with wine after the morning cooking session. By the end of the day, guests head home with the new set of skills to keep making these dishes at home, taking the final dip in the pool before heading back to their riad or hotel.
