Based in Honolulu, BOCA Hawaii is more than a bike rental and repair shop. Founded by triathlete/coach Raul Torres, BOCA Hawaii has grown from a small training clinic into a key focal point for Hawaii's multi-sport community. From humble beginnings in 1994 with 25 members, this dynamic community grew into a strong network of athletes who supported and motivated each other to new heights. BOCA Hawaii provides training instruction, tools, and friendships for all athletic pursuits, from preparation for local triathlons and full Ironman events to casual fitness.
Raul Torres, a 1989 arrival in the islands to compete in the prestigious Kona Ironman, fell in love with the islands and began offering structured triathlon programs with the premise of developing camaraderie and mutual motivation. Under Raul's guidance, BOCA Hawaii offers ten diverse programs annually to suit all aspects of multi-sport training, from cycling and running to specialized triathlon coaching. Through BOCA Hawaii, athletes compete in events both locally and internationally, ranging from Ironman races to ultra-distance challenges, with a wide range of coaches and consultants.
Besides training, BOCA Hawaii is also recognized for its concern for sustainability; it was granted a Green Business Award by the state, based on the environmentally friendly practices that it embraced. BOCA Hawaii puts into practice energy use reduction, makes use of natural ventilation, and uses recycled materials in daily operations and event planning. The shop refurbishes and salvages bicycle parts, encourages alternative transportation, and has sustainability emphasized in every aspect of its business.
Yet, BOCA Hawaii does much more—it organizes races amidst the most beautiful landscapes of Hawaii, enhancing camaraderie among members. Many of the events also serve local food with trophies made from recycled goods. That reflects growing challenges and community involvement-Boca's ideology. Be it for competitive athletes or casual enthusiasts, BOCA Hawaii remains at the pulse of athletic development, ecological responsibility, and personal growth on these islands.
