About Oahu Country Club

Only a few minutes from downtown Honolulu, the Oahu Country Club is one of Hawaii's oldest and most respected private golf clubs. Nestled in the dense landscape of Nu'uanu Valley, this historic club offers a playing experience that captures both natural beauty and rich historical heritage. The club grounds, Waolani-meaning "heavenly wilderness"-have a special connection with Hawaii's royal history, as this ground could trace its ownership back to King Kamehameha III himself. Located some 400 feet above sea level, Oahu Country Club has the panoramic view of the skyline of Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean.

Founded at the turn of the 20th century, the club was established to meet the growing interest in golf by the residents and visitors of Oahu. In 1906, when the Manoa Golf Club closed its operations, it paved the way for a regular golf course in Honolulu. Inspired by the need for a permanent golfing facility, attorney Wade Warren Thayer sought to create an establishment that would be lasting. Indeed, by acquiring the property of Waolani, Thayer preserved the land but also founded the cornerstone of a club that would forge ahead as the hub of golf in Hawaii.

Oahu Country Club features an 18-hole course, one of the most arduous layouts created by the ingenious William Bell. Affectionately known as "The Grand Dame," the course features dynamic terrain, which demands strategic play and precision. The course initially opened in 1907 as a nine-hole course and was expanded to a full 18 holes in 1913. With continuous improvements, the course is 6,041 yards with a par of 71 and maintains its prestige as a very competitive and picturesque venue to accommodate players of all skill levels.

Oahu Country Club golfers have extensive facilities available to them, ranging from driving ranges to short-game practice areas and even a pro shop offering competitive pricing. From the Oahu Country Club Men's and Women's Invitational-which usually brings in several of the best players around the state-to the quite frequent important tournaments, the club promises some excitement about the game. The club further organizes special events such as the "Member-Guest," "Battle of the Sexes," and the Club Championship to keep the activities in the golf community very active and competitive.

Beyond the course, the club offers a core of facilities designed to make the member experience even more enjoyable: an on-site fitness center that opens seven days a week; modern, up-to-date equipment; and wellness classes and personal training sessions by the club. To this end, the clubhouse boasts men's and women's locker rooms, including a temperature-controlled swimming pool and attractively designed common areas in which one can relax and take in the serenity of Nu'uanu Valley.
